Welfare

The welfare of our horses is of paramount importance.

Our horses are ridden for a maximum of 2 hours per day, with 2 days rest per week. We have 8 beautiful acres of land in the Algarve countryside which provides extensive space for the majority of our horses to live freely in a herd. We firmly believe that “horses should be horses” and should be free to roam wherever possible.

“Horses being Horses”

Our horses tack is checked on a regular basis and adjusted as needed to ensure their comfort and wellbeing, they are also seen by a certified horse osteopath on a regular basis.

Unless absolutely essential, we use non metal bits in all our horses and ponies mouths.

Dental, veterinary and farrier care is a given whenever it is needed as part of general horse care.

It is very unusual for a rescue horse to be used in our riding program (unless they were rescued at a young age).
